Damned Parrot!

December 24, 2007 / by htargett

Looking through one of the hundreds of catalogs we all receive I found a toy Parrot named “Squawkers McCaw” by Hasbro that talks, dances to the beat of any song, eats, sings, whistles, squawks, coos, kisses, plays peek a boo, laughs, passes gas, repeats sayings you tell him (a list), has sensors all over his body to do thinks when they are petted and in the dance mode will play a song and dance.  It sits on a perch and does its many things.  It also has a custom mode where you can prerecord sayings to prerecorded questions that you make up.

I ordered this magnificent specimen to keep at home and entertain our two grandchildren when they visit.

The damned parrot seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to doing things.  The direction book says one thing and the parrot does what it wants to the heck with the directions.  Frustrating to say the least, especially since I am the world’s best KLUTZ when it comes to building or operating anything.

Well the 3yr old holy terror grandson and the grownup 5 yr old granddaughter & their parents (my son and daughter-in-law) along with my single daughter from Boston will be over this afternoon for our Christmas Dinner & gift giving (they have a two day schedule every year) and I will have them program this damned thing.

Do you ever get the impression that technology has passed you by????

Have a very Merry Christmas,

Hugh

I avoid the elctronics section in every store. It feels like an alien world to me. Whatever technological gadgets and gizmos my grandchildren have came from somebody else. The last experience I can recall is when my 10 year old son (he's now 35) and I spent 2 weeks assembling (and several times reassembling) a remote control car. We finally got it working properly. Then, in 2 days of use it was broken beyond repair, and I swore never again. Merry Christmas, Hugh.

I know the feeling! My 35 yr old son and I many years ago attempted to assemble a "go-cart" with a real engine etc (the damned thing came in 1,000 + parts) to use in a large parking lot next to where we lived at the time. I did much worse than you did......I gave up and requested the assistance of one of our "mechanically gifted" employees to assist him. Merry Christmas![SMILE]

Another thing we share in common! At least we can admit it in our "old age"! Plus, I too, have grandchildren ages 3 and 5--precisely described by you.[WINK] Hope the parrot works.[THUMBUP]

I'm curious as to how the whole parrot thing played out. Do you still have it? Did the grandkiddos like it?
