Yesterday,
a day between snow storms, seemed the perfect opportunity to finish my
Christmas Shopping. Needed to purchase 3
more gifts to complete my list. Now
everything thus far has been ordered via the internet and is arriving daily by
UPS etc. Therefore I have not had to
enter a store up till yesterday.
Target
Store, Dicks Sporting Goods, and Michaels seemed like good choices since we now
have them all in our town of 22,000 people (in addition to Home Depot, Borders,
Would you
believe 3 stores, one gift purchased in each, and the whole experience took
about 14 minutes? Well it did and thanks
to the stores for placing their gift cards in racks next to the cash registers,
pick an empty register with a light on and you are home free (I guess free isn’t
the appropriate word).
My grown kids
don’t bother to hint about gifts anymore, for the most part, they just mention
stores instead. Still buy gifts for the
grandkids, however.
It will
take me longer to pick up our rib roast from the butcher Friday than it did to
do my Christmas shopping! Such is life.
Have a
great day,
Hugh

My wife does this for the grandkids but she then gives it to them shortly after purchase so she must buy something else for Christmas. Perennial shopping I guess you call it![SMILE]

My experience has been similar. I didn't realize Keene was that large. Guess I need to explore more of that area. Usually we just pick a country road and see what villages and towns pop up. I've got this idea in my head that I want to make a collection of photos of every town hall in New Hampshire. But so far I only have about a dozen, owing chiefly to the fact that I usually forget my camera. We've got about 4000 people (I think) in Henniker and the largest retailers are the century old Henniker Pharmacy and the hardware store. We head to Concord for the big stores.

Keene has a most beautiful and active Main Street and Square. It also is home to the Colony Mill Marketplace (local shops) which also has a brewpub plus a Mexican Restaurant and the Ashbrook Rd Shopping Center of branded stores and restaurants. Our proximity to Vt and Ma and our lack of a sales tax accounts for our small city having so many big stores. It's only 35-40 minutes from Henniker and is worth a trip when you have the inclination. The small grocery/general store in Henniker was an agent for my dry cleaning company 35 years ago. We also rented linens to the students at NE College from the store in those days. How time flies![SMILE]
