Wow,
another winter wonderland. We had about
8 inches added yesterday afternoon and evening so now we have a foot of snow to
play with. Put up one of our large bird
feeders (holds 18 birds at one time) on our deck two days ago (assume the bears
are now asleep) and low and behold our mountain is once again full of birds and
our cat Squeeky is happy to sit on the kitchen table and watch the show with
envy.
Snow on the
day after a storm seems to quiet things down to show off it’s beauty and if you
have a large house, enough heat, food etc one can’t wish to be anywhere else on
a day such as this!
Unfortunately,
today I must journey in search of a Christmas tree. We go to a tree farm to in our quest for the
perfect tree 8 to 10 foot tall and perfectly rounded (ha ha). Many
farms in NH were put to profitable part time use by growing Christmas trees
when it became apparent that a dozen or so milking cows on rock laden hilly/mountainous
terrain with a fairly level field or two for corn & hay did not a profitable
farm make in the twentieth century so were either cut up into building lots or
put to other uses like Christmas trees.
Took 8
boxes (heavy) of books to our library yesterday (don’t forget to make your
contributions before 31 Dec) and was surprised to see the activity. I have got to reactivate my library card in
2008.
Have a Great
Day,
Hugh

Now that I have a health induced retirement from the (outside) work-a-day world I hope that we get a bit of snow here and there in my neck of the woods. Just the "wearing of the fleece", keeping the kettle going, polishing the wood with lemon oil and not letting the pot of chicken and dumplings go empty and continually bubbling is much of my work now.
Hugh, I am hoping this note finds you satisfied with your self and your spot in the world in these often troubling times. You, Brownulated and several others have been a bright spot for me though you I've been reading at times without logging in. There being moments when I needed a bit of humor, down to earth/day to day bits that you (all) take a moment to share.
Just wishing you well and sending you good thoughts. Merry Christmas to you and yours! Keep warm! Cindy[SMILE][HEART]
